Capital city of the Highlands, Inverness is situated on the River Ness which leads into the famous Loch Ness - home of the infamous illusive monster. Another major event in calendar is the annual Highland Games, which take place over 3 days in July. Activities: there are hiking and cycling paths to suit all interests, from serious mountaineering, hill walking and mountain biking to leisurely strolls around the city.
